Outstanding Staff

At DEEP WOODS we feel that the Staff is the most important single factor in the success of the camp. Our Staff is composed of mature young men, college age and older, who have a real love for camp life and work with youngsters. Most of our Staff have grown up at DEEP WOODS as campers and Rangers.

Counselors' prime responsibility is their cabin group. They are at camp for the express purpose of implementing the DEEP WOODS philosophy for each boy. Their influence with the campers is naturally great--therefore they are selected for their character, responsibility, personality, and leadership ability. They are also able instructors who can impart their skills to the campers.

Counselors are required to write to parents at regular intervals to report on progress of their campers.

Health and Safety

The health of our campers is a vital concern. Medical services are available at the Medical Associates of Transylvania Clinic in nearby Brevard where a doctor is assigned as our Camp Doctor. Also in Brevard is a modern, well-equipped hospital.

Safety is a prime consideration at DEEP WOODS and our Staff is trained to be safety conscious at all times. Careful, expert and adequate supervision is a 24-hour-a-day responsibility for our Counselors. Each trip that leaves camp is directed by one or more Counselors. Rangers provide additional supervision. Life vests are worn on all canoe, raft and tube trips.
