Camp Facilities
DEEP WOODS is situated on a several hundred acre tract of mountain land. Camp itself is in the back portion where real privacy, which we feel is a necessary part of camp, is provided.
Our lake, more than an acre in size, is fed by streams that originate on camp property. A continual flow of fresh water through the lake keeps it clean and clear, and at a temperature that is good for swimming.
Cabins are designed for eight people. Each cabin has an encircling porch with overhanging roof that gives plenty of ventilation. A central closet area provides shelves and hanging space, thereby eliminating the need for campers to live out of their footlockers during camp. Bunks are double deckers.
Four cabins share a bathhouse where a large water heater gives ample hot water for showers. A fifth cabin, the Ranger Cabin, has its own bathhouse.
Meals are prepared in our modern kitchen and served family style in the dining hall. Menus are carefully planned and food is in ample quantity. Our facilities are rated Grade A by the North Carolina Health Department.
Camp property includes the Walnut Cove Farm, the open areas of which serve as our playing fields. Entrance to camp is through this farm, nearly a mile on our gravel road from the gate to camp itself.
These facilities are the base from which we operate. We take full advantage of the mountains and rivers of the region. We are surrounded by wooded lands and are within easy driving distance of thousands of acres of backwoods country, unsurpassed whitewater rivers, and beautiful waterfalls. Western North Carolina is truly DEEP WOODS country.
